eating out 1998.jpgThe Story of our Family -

Written by Kim:

I was going to college at the University of Utah.  A group of my friends had decided to get an apartment together.  We began attending an LDS singles ward.  One night at an activity we were playing volleyball and a new guy walked in...yes it was Troy.  I immediately thought he was cute and I loved that he was a returned missionary, but for some reason we just ended up being really good friends.  For a couple of years there were 5 of us that would do everything together...everything but date.

Troy decided to move an hour away to finish up college.  Within weeks he called and asked me out.  None of our other friends believed that we were dating each other.  We had been such close friends for so long they thought we were joking around.  A year later Troy proposed, and once I could show them a ring, our friends finally believed us.

at the temple.jpg We were engaged for six months, and then were married in the Jordan River Temple.  It was one of the best days of my life.  I am so grateful we were friends for so long.  We knew each other so well.  Neither of us even had any pre-wedding jitters.  We just knew everything would work out great.

I had finished college before we were married, and over the next two years Troy finished up.  I love being married.  It was so great to be able to decide on Friday to drive down to see our friends in Vegas, and just pack the car and go.  We both had good jobs.  We lived in an apartment for a while, but after just over a year we decided it was time to buy a house. front of our house.jpg I found our house by accident.  I was lost and I ended up seeing the for sale sign.  Troy and I made an offer, and within a month we were moving in.  I love our house.  There are tons of parks around us, and we have great neighbors.

We had planned on starting a family shortly after our marriage, however that didn't happen.  We continued to work and save money, hoping that some day soon I would be able to quit my job to stay home with our family.  We also spent that time enjoying each other.  We loved to go skiing together.  Troy Ski's, I snow board.  We would go up several times per year.  We also would go camping, hiking, rollerblading, biking, etc...  We loved to visit Moab and go river rafting.  We are also both roller coaster junkies.  We would take road trips to visit our friends in Las Vegas and California, and hit all of the roller coasters on the way.   kim parasailing.jpgTroy and I were also able to go on two cruises.  (I had been on one before with girlfriends when I was single).  troy and balcony of cruise ship.jpgWe love them!!!  Our dream vacation is to cruise to Hawaii.  I love that you can eat any time you want, you get to visit a different place every day, and there are so many new things to try. The most exciting (and terrifying) thing I have done was to go parasailing.  I am so scared of heights.  Nothing like conquering your fears.  Troy doesn't seem to have any fears.

After years of waiting for a family, we decided to be more proactive.  We spent a year doing infertility treatments, but neither of us really felt like it would work.  I had felt for a long time that we were suppose to adopt.  We applied with LDS Family services.  It took many many months to fill out the paperwork and get our home studies done. new family.jpg Finally we were approved.  We were in the process of taking the required 8 weeks of classes when we were called and asked to come in early to meet the director of the agency.  It was a cover up.  They really wanted us to come in because waiting for us was a big bouquet of balloons stating that "It's a Boy".  We were both in total shock, and so excited at the same time.  The baby was due in 7 weeks.  2 weeks later on Halloween day I got a call at work - Curtis had arrived early!  This is our first family photograph with Curtis.

2007-08-24%20002.jpgIn 2005 we put our papers back in hoping that soon we would be able to adopt again.  After a 2 year wait with LDS Family Services, we realized that our next child was probably somewhere else.  In April 2007 we got approved with an agency called A Guardian Angel.  In June 2007 we received a call that we had been matched to a birth family.  On August 22, 2007 our beautiful Claire Elizabeth was born.  Our first family picture with her was at the hospital when she was only a day old.

I just want to end by saying I love being a wife and mother.  I know that after years of waiting I am finally doing what I am meant to be doing.  I love that I am able to stay at  home with Curtis and Claire (and any other children we may be blessed with).  I am so grateful to have a wonderful husband who is also such a great father.
